| In this report, based on the recording of the philosophical lecture "The Causal Model and the Contemporary International Order" given by Professor Ni Peimin in Wuhan University, the author did a mock interpreting. With the source text and target text being the corpus, the author carried out a study on the problems in this task from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory of Translation and tried to find solutions to these problems. As for the troubles emerging in listening comprehension, the author manifested that two sources of "cognitive complements",namely "cognitive baggage" and "cognitive context" in the Interpretive Theory of Translation, can be applied to help interpreters fully comprehend the sense of source texts. With respect to memory and note-taking,interpreters must deverbalize from the form and structure and grasp the sense of source text."Visualization","outline" and "chunking" are effective strategies for memory and note-taking.In regard to re-expression,the difference in syntactic structures between Chinese and English should be taken into account.Hence, interpreters need to shift syntactic structures so as to make the target text acceptable for target text readers.Additionally,"deletion" and "domestication" are of great help for interpreters to tackle culture-specific items and make the translation understandable for target text readers. The study in this report serves as a strong proof that the Interpretive Theory of Translation can provide constructive guidance for lecture interpreting and that it is feasible to carry out studies on lecture interpreting from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory of Translation. |
