A Report On Errors And Post-editing In Machine Translation Of Technical Texts

The 21st century is an era of globalization and information when the international information flows in an increasingly rapid and frequent approach.And the core business of the global language service industry is various types of translation.The rapid development of science and technology also gives birth to a large number of technical texts that gain a more important status today.How to conduct a high-quality technical translation under this new translating trend has become an important project today.This thesis mainly adopts qualitative analysis method for research and analysis.According to the strict,objective and formal style of technical texts,the author follows the principles of accuracy,concision and science to render.Through the example analysis,the author demonstrates the vocabulary,syntax translation and other kinds of errors generated by machine translation,and gives the correct examples and corresponding translation strategies.Combined with the translation process of texts,this thesis aims to explore the error types of machine translation in technical texts and the editing skills and methods of post-editing,in order to provide some inspiration and reference for the translation and PE of the very texts.The author draws inspiration from this translation practice: the key error points of technical translation are the word meaning,noun phrases,passive voice sentences,logical division of long sentences,etc.The translator must not follow the machine translation blindly but conduct conscientious post-editing combined with appropriate translation skills according to the text traits and target audience,which thus leads to high-quality technical translation,outputting a Chinese-translated work of authentic and accurate language.
