| With the development of the social economy,violence in school has gradually attracted the public’s attention.School violence not only seriously affects the physical and mental development of teenagers but also impedes the harmony of family and society.This report is mainly based on the translation of the first two chapters selected from Being Down: Challenging Violence in Urban School,which is an informative text,rigorously and objectively elaborating on the school violence and its impact on the city.The first chapter respectively introduces the framework of understanding school violence,Brandon city and Brandon High School,policies to deal with school violence and the second chapter mainly describes systemic violence,hidden violence and peer mediation.Both chapters are important parts of the book.In the report,the difficulties of the source text are analyzed from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory and communicative translation.The main problems in vocabulary are the translation of plentiful nouns and noun phrases and the major problem at the syntactic level is the translation of long and complicated clauses.Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory,amplification,four-character phrases and conversion are used at the lexical level.At the syntactic level,translation techniques such as combination,division and restructuring are mainly applied.At the textual level,the author particularly analyzes how to reproduce the stylistic features of the text so as to make the translation more accurate and to make the translation more consistent with the target language readers’ expression habits.As school violence in different countries has some common characteristics,the author wishes to provide a reference for the domestic students and scholars by analyzing the case-based study and corresponding policies and protect teenagers. |
