A Report On The Interpretation Of "Track And Field Events Of The 7th Cism Military World Games"

This practice report is based on the interpreting practice for the“Track and Field Events of the 7th CISM Military World Games” held by The 7th CISM Military World Games Executive Commission in October 2019.The material mainly includes the informative dialogues between Chinese Technical Officials and foreign athletes and coaches,such as dialogues about submitting and changing the lists of participants of each event,inquiry about the schedules,rules or the results and emergencies.The purpose of such materials is to convey message,and Track and Field terms and rules are involved.On the competition field and training field,the smooth and accurate delivery of message is of great priority for the athletes and success of the 7th CISM Military World Games.The author encounters various difficulties such as terminologies,accents and broken sentences of foreign coaches and athletes and complex rules.Guided by the Interpretative Theory,the author finds that such difficulties can largely attribute to difficulties at the comprehension stage(the lack of cognitive knowledge),and tries to apply de-verbalization in her practice with a series of interpreting strategies such as addition,omission and paraphrasing in different contexts.To cope with the Interpreter’s Anxiety,the interpreter adopted the strategies of inquiry and alteration in the interpreting process.This interpreting report provides with practical occasions and difficulties in sports interpreting.Aimed at informative and colloquial language in sports field,the author adopted strategies and methods accordingly.It is expected that the report would provide interpreters and researchers of sports interpreting,especially Track and Field Interpreting with some useful references.
