Reflection Reality: The Author’s Expression Of Chinese Independent Documentary Films

Since “Bumming In Beijing” in 1990,Chinese independent documentary films have gone through 30 years,from the shambling imitation in the early stage of development to the multiple coexistence today,many excellent works have been accumulated.In this historical time node,I intend to deeply investigate the creative idea and expression of excellent documentary directors from the perspective of “the Author Theory”.Based on the analysis of the historical development and aesthetic origin of independent documentary films,this paper focuses on the diverse presentation of Chinese independent documentary films in the author’s expression.The new development of "private image" beyond personal expression brings polysemy;the bold crossover of independent documentary films give the image inside and outside art weight;deconstruction and reorganization of the site and technological progress both bring material liberation,they are all directors’ active exploration in the author’s expression.In addition,this paper selects three representative Chinese independent documentary films directors: Wang Bing,Zhou Hao and Qiu Jiongjiong,analyzes the author’s expression in their works with identity color,and probes into their means of recording reality and different dimensions of participating in reality.In order to get a close understanding of the practice of Chinese independent documentary films director’s creation,and to further analyze the subject consciousness and creation aesthetic concept in director’s creation,I went to the scene of the work " Rest Home" which is being shot by Xu Tong（a representative director of Chinese independent documentary films）,and participated in the production practice of independent documentary film with the method of field investigation.I choose and intervene the viewpoint to control the life and work of the photographer,and expand the research object to the documentary subject to explore the shooting relationship in the real tension,so as to judge Xu Tong’s aesthetic choice.Through the above research and analysis,this paper summarizes the expression trend of Chinese independent documentary films writers,and holds that Chinese independent documentary films directors are more inclined to grasp the reality in the daily picture,and their pursuit of authenticity also changes from being loyal to the reality to being loyal to the heart.The establishment of "Film Author Theory" means the independence of the artistry of film.As a reasonable evaluation standard and research perspective,the author’s expression can be the starting point for us to understand Chinese independent documentary films.
