Design Of Museum Historical Relics Exhibition Space Atmosphere Based On Post Occupancy Evaluation

Under the background of development of socialist cultural construction,non-heritage museums in cultural relics system started to be free for visitors in 2008.As a result,the number of museum visitors increased sharply.According to a survey by the China Tourism Academy,40.5% of tourists chose to visit museums during the Spring Festival in 2019,indicating that museums have become one of the top choices for cultural leisure.However,in contradiction with this,due to the restrict of both the economic development and living standards,some museums built in the early year were only designed as “container” for cultural relics,which only focused on collection efficiency and not payed much attention to visitors experience.Therefore,it is urgent to examine whether the exhibition design in these museums could meet the needs of current visitors.Based on the theory of atmospherics and Post Occupancy Evaluation,a quantitative and qualitative research have been polited on historical relics exhibitions in the non-site museums and three exhibitions in Hubei Province Museum have been chosen as samples to use Post Occupancy Evaluation model to evaluate the designs’ efficiency.Based on the evaluation result,combined with observation research in about 10 museums,universal renovation strategies,aiming to provide a new perspective for the study of cultural relic exhibition in museum have been put forward.This paper could be divided into five parts: in the First Part(chapter 1): the background of the proposed research and related research literature are reviewed in detail,in order to put forward a scientific and operable research methods.In the Second Part(chapter 2 and chapter 3): Basic researches on atmospherics theory and Post Occupancy Evaluation method are conducted.Then,requirements and demands of museum historical relics exhibition spaces,current existing problems are analyzed and concluded as basis for the extraction of spatial atmosphere evaluation factors.The third part(chapter 4): Based on the research on the theories of space atmosphere,with summarizing and analyzing the previous research results of atmosphere elements,the atmosphere factors of museum historical relics exhibition space are extracted,so as to provide a basis for the formulation of evaluation content.The fourth part(chapter 5): A model of museum Post Occupancy Evaluation has been put forward,including a clear evaluation content: the evaluation of physical environment comfortability,the evaluation of design and layout reasonability and the evaluation of information expression effectiveness.Then Post Occupancy Evaluation research on the three exhibitions in Hubei Province Museum have been conducted and the evaluation results are analyzed.The fifth part(chapter 6): Based on the results of Post Occupancy Evaluation of Hubei Province Museum and combined with the preliminary exploration of existing problems in the second part of the museum,the design strategies to improve the museum historical relics exhibition atmosphere have been put forward.
