| As the carrier of "wang yan",the imperial edict embodies a strong state ideology with a commanding attitude,which is closely related to the political system and culture in the Emperor Wen & Jing Period.Imperial edicts had a high degree of authority,so there were strict procedures from drafting to issuing to ensure that they accurately conveyed the emperor’s orders.Emperor Wen & Jing Period imperial edicts were drafted by imperial censors,while Shang Shu was only a minor official in charge of delivering documents.Although there were departments for the drafting of imperial edicts,it can be seen from the analysis of the wording and tone of the edicts that most of the edicts of emperor wen created by himself.The style of imperial edict also developed during the period of emperor wen,and the new style of imperial edict,"instigating",was first used by emperor wen.Imperial edicts of the Emperor Wen& Jing Period covered a wide range of subjects,such as harmony,disaster and so on.In the Emperor Wen & Jing Period,the state system and regulations were yet to be perfected.Imperial edicts,as the embodiment of the will of the supreme ruler,played a huge role in politics and people’s livelihood.Imperial edicts,as the embodiment of the will of the supreme ruler,could balance the relationship between the emperor and the courtiers at home,deal with the power of the vassal states,and maintain the peaceful relationship with the Xiong Nu in foreign countries.Wen & Jing emperors frequently advised the peasants,which greatly increased the enthusiasm of the peasants and promoted the development of the domestic economy.The laws and regulations in Emperor Wen & Jing Period were still not perfect,and the laws and regulations in Qin dynasty could not meet the needs of social development.Therefore,the use of imperial edicts to change the old laws and add new orders in the period of the emperor Wen &Jing made up for the shortcomings of the Qin laws to a certain extent and maintained social stability.The imperial edict is the concentrated embodiment of the mainstream consciousness of a country.It can be seen from the imperial edict in Emperor Wen &Jing Period that the ruling thought at this time is not only Huang-Lao thought.Emperor wen once issued imperial edicts to support the revival of Confucianism,and emperor Jing issued imperial edicts on rites and music at the beginning of his accession to the throne,emphasizing the role of rites and music in education.After the rebellion of the seven kingdoms,emperor Jing made more frequent imperial edicts to weaken the power of vassal states,constantly strengthen the centralization of power,and emphasize the hierarchical order.It can be seen that Confucianism has entered the political stage in the period of Wen & Jing.The culture of filial piety in Confucian thought was highly respected by the emperors and people in the literary period.Wen & Jing emperors issued many edicts to advocate respecting the old and loving the old,further promoting the spread of filial piety culture.The imperial edict in the period of literary scenery has a high position in the history of literature,which has been recognized by literary critics in past dynasties,and its literary value is beyond doubt.Compared with the imperial edicts of the Gao Zu period,the imperial edicts of the Wen&Jing period had elegant words,neat sentences and a relatively mature writing mode.The imperial edicts of emperor wen are favored for their sincerity,compassion,prudence and humility,and the brilliance of human nature.They are unique in the history of literature. |
