| This translation report is based on the translation of Chapter One,Chapter Two,Chapter Three and the beginning of Chapter Four of AI Injected e-learning: The Future of Online Education.The book was authored by Matthew Montebello,Professor of Artificial Intelligence Department of Malta University,and published by Springer Press in 2017.The book mainly reviews the development of online education,introduces the latest technologies related to online education,and looks forward to the future of online education.The language is formal,objective,logical and accurate.Under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the translator adopted various translation methods to solve difficulties in the translation practice.Specifically,on the lexical level,in regard to the translation of acronyms,educational and technical terminologies,proper nouns,polysemous words and nominalized words,the translator used translation methods like literal translation,transliteration,annotation,and conversion;on the syntactic level,in regard to the translation of passive sentences,impersonal subject sentences and complex sentences,conversion,division and reconstruction were employed to tackle difficulties;on the textual level,the translator kept the format of the figures and in-text citations,and translated prefaces in each chapter with free translation method,trying to keep the stylistic features of the source text.Through this translation practice,the translator founded that:(1)Functional equivalence theory can effectively guide the translation of educational academic texts and help the translator choose appropriate translation methods;(2)pre-translation preparation and revision are of great necessity and importance for a good translation;(3)to be a good translator,one needs to possess necessary qualities.The translator hopes this paper could enlighten translators who will deal with similar texts in the future. |
