This report is based on the translation practice of Chapter Two excerpted from Innovation and Creativity in SMEs.Innovation and Creativity in SMEs discusses why and how SMEs innovate and proposes practical innovative strategies.Chapter Two of the book analyzes the barriers and drivers of SME innovation and proposes practical innovative strategies.The book is an informative text in Business English,boasting formal words,technical terms,long and difficult sentences.Guided by Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory,this report discusses difficulties encountered during the translation process and corresponding solutions from lexical,syntactic and textual aspects.On the lexical level,in terms of problems caused by technical terms,proper nouns,frequently-used general nouns,translation skills such as adding notes,liberal translation,amplification,semantic extension and conversion were used.For syntactic difficulties,the translator resorted to domesticating method,sentence division,conversion of subjects,addition and so on.On the textual level,the source text introduces many researchers’ results,and therefore there are in-text citations in large numbers.Following authoritative format rules in Chinese academic writing,the in-text citations should be maintained.Case studies during the translation practice combined,the translator summarized solutions to difficulties frequently encountered in Business English translation,and concluded that the choice of translation strategy should take text type,readership and translation purpose into consideration,hoping to provide some inspirations for future translators dedicated to this area.
