A Report On C-E Translation Of Series Of Management Documents Of The International College Of Guangxi University

This English translation project is a series of management documents of the International College of Guangxi University(Hereinafter referred to as series management documents of ICGU),with more than 10,000 words in total.The target audiences of the English translation version include Chinese and foreign faculty,Chinese and foreign students,and others.The main purpose of this text is to regularize the management system of the college,strengthen the management of instruments and equipment of Guangxi University,ensure the orderly and safe progress of laboratory teaching,and help teachers and students understand the management regulations of the International College.During the process of translation,this paper studies the characteristics of Chinese legal provisions.In terms of lexical items,itmainly investigates the features and translation of vague words,modal verbs,common phrases,etc.;The syntactic characteristics includes the conversion between active sentences and passive sentences,the translation of null-subject sentences,and compound sentences;Guided by Vermeer’s Skopos Theory,this project report explores the translation strategies of the legal text,arguing that literal translation plays a significant role in dealing with such documents with free translation as supplement.Besides,the paper also discusses some translation skills such as amplification,conversion,inversion,voice changes and the like.
