The thesis was guided by Guo Jianzhong’s translation criteria of science fiction:literariness, scientificness, and popularity. The author translated parts of A Honeymoon in Space written by the British science fiction writer,George Griffith. With the guidance of the three criteria and translation strategies, the author mainly aimed to analyze how to reproduce the characteristics of science fiction in English-Chinese translation of science fiction. Therefore, the author chose this text type, with the guidance of related theory to do the study. In 1900,a Chinese couple translated the first science fiction, which was recorded as the begining of China’s science fiction.Although the translation of science fiction in China has developed a lot in recent years, the researches about science fiction translation still have a lot of work to do,such as the translation theory and strategy. In 2004,Professor Guo Jianzhong wrote and published Studies of Sci-tech Translation: Theories,Strategies and Practices(2004),which was known as “the first and the only published book that introduces three criteria of science fiction translation with practices systematically”.In his book,Guo Jianzhong concluded his translation criteria of science fiction.Furthermore,Guo Jianzhong also introduced translators’ qualities and translation strategies, referring his translation practices as examples.During completing the translation practice for the thesis, the author aimed to present a popular rendering text with straightaway Chinese language, meanwhile,to retain the original linguistic style so as to keep the similar image.According to Guo Jianzhong’s new definitions to literal and free translation, domestication and foreignization, the author translated the source text from the perspectives of linguistic and culture, form and content separately. And in the thesis,on the basis of the translation practice, the author will discuss about Professor Guo Jianzhong’s three translation criteria, some translation strategies and methods, and the enlightenment and problems of the thesis writing. After finishing the whole task of thesis writing, the author can conclude that Guo Jianzhong’s translation criteria can be well adapted to science fiction translation. And the author hopes that the thesis can be a valuable reference material for science fiction translation and other related studies.
