| “cultural awareness” of Senior High School English Curriculum Standard in 2017,is raised to the height of English core competence.Meanwhile,Senior High School English Curriculum Standard in 2017 puts forward the six curriculum components including “cultural knowledge” and “themes”,and all the themes should contain cultures.The senior high school English curriculum should be carried out under the themes in discourses.As the important discourse,English reading contain abundant cultural themes.Therefore,this study focuses on the current situation of high school English reading teaching based on cultural themes to put forward the corresponding improving strategies.According to PWP(pre-,while-,post-)teaching process,this paper tries to discuss the current situation of English reading teaching based on cultural themes and offers correlative strategies with questionnaire method and interview method from the dimension of pre-reading,while-reading and post-readingThe results of research show that there are advantages,shortcomings and differences in the overall current situation.First,for the pre-reading teaching,teachers can realize the close relation of language and culture,approve the importance of common outstanding cultures in English reading teaching,set cultural themes objectives and provide pre-class cultural reading materials properly.However,the English and American cultural themes are dominated,while Chinese cultural themes are paid little attention.Pre-class reading themes are which teachers are good at and mainly from textbooks and workbooks.Teachers with different title,education background and gender have different cognition and goal setting on cultural themes.Secondly,for while reading,Teachers can organize reading teaching on cultural themes effectively and promote character education.But teachers impart cultural knowledge,interpret the themes they are good at but ignore the key themes in textbook.Teachers with different education background,title,gender and from different schools have differences in while-reading teaching.Thirdly,for post-reading teaching.Teachers can apply reasonable strategies to cultural themes’ teaching,assign post-reading tasks on cultural themes,and reflect on the reading teaching on cultural themes.But the postreading tasks are mainly from text books and exercises,and their reflections are not comprehensive.There are differences in post-reading teaching strategies among teachers with different education background.Thus,this thesis come up with strategies.Extrinsic strategies are education sector and schools provide training for teachers,establish teachers learning community and mobility system,raise the entering requirement for senior high school teachers’ education background,encourage inservice teachers to improve their education background and titles,pay attention to the construction of teaching materials,construct reading resources on cultural themes,and pay attention to the backwash effect of examinations.Intrinsic strategies are teachers actively promote their education background and titles,and participate in training and professional sharing in teachers’ community.Finally improve the current situation of English reading teaching based on cultural themes in senior high school. |
