This translation practice project is based on Anthony Pym’s On Translator Ethics, rendering the English version to Chinese one.In this book,Pym explains translation ethics from a new perspective,by focusing on the two issues of “what the translator is”and “why translates” and discussing the multiple identities of translators such as “inbetween”,“messengers”,and “professionals” in different situations. The translator was responsible for translating the introduction and part of the first chapter.Anthony Pym’s research on translator’s ethics has exerted a wide influence on the translation circle both in the West and in China. He provides a new way of thinking for the study of translation ethics from the perspective of translators’ interculturality, and it is one of the representative works on the exploration of translation professional ethics in the West. Therefore, the translation of this book can introduce Pym’s translation ethics into China,so that domestic scholars and translators who study translation ethics can gain a comprehensive knowledge of western translation ethics and promote the development of translation ethics theory in Chinese academic circles. In addition,it is a precious opportunity for the translator to get promoted in the process of translation.According to Newmark’s Text Typology theory, this book is mainly informative and a little expressive. In the process of translation, the translator adopts communicative translation as the main strategy and semantic translation as the auxiliary one.The translator also adopts such skills as conversion, extension and division to ensure the smoothness and readability of the translation.Through this translation practice, the translator’s reading and translation ability have been improved. She’s also developed a clear grasp of the translation process.During the translation process, the translator has also found that the expertise involved in translation is very complex, requiring the translator to have professional knowledge in a certain field, which means that the translator still has a long way to go before becoming a qualified translator.
