A Report On Translation Of Scientific Thesis From The Perspective Of The Newmark’s Text Typology Theory

Carrying rich scientific and technological information,scientific thesis is an important carrier of academic exchanges between China and western countries.In view of this,the translation of scientific thesis plays an important role in academic exchanges and technological development in various countries.In addition,there is a large amount of translation of academic papers in the translation market.The translation research of scientific thesis is conducive to enriching the translation methods and case studies in this field,thus providing some references for the workers engaged in the translation industry to a certain extent.The translation materials of this practice belong to informative text,and generally,when translating informative texts,the translator should fully present the authenticity and accuracy of the original text information in the target language.Newmark proposed semantic translation and communicative translation for different types of texts.He believed that semantic translation is suitable for guiding the translation of expressive texts,while the translator should choose communicative translation strategy for the translation of the other two text types,namely,informative texts and vocative texts.This report analyzes typical translation cases from lexical,syntactic and textual level to discusses the methods of translating Chinese scientific thesis into English.First of all,the author ensures the professionalism and accuracy of the translation of words under the guidance of communicative translation strategy and semantic translation strategy.Secondly,the original text consists of run-on sentences,non-subject sentences and active sentences.The author should focus on the target language readers and translate according to the expression habits of the target language to avoid the translation cavity as much as possible.Finally,with regard to textual translation,cohesion and stylistic unification are the key points.Due to the differences between Chinese and English expressions,the author should pay attention to textual cohesion and semantic coherence in translation by means of substitution,reference and ellipsis in order to achieve the purpose of information communication.This report consists of four chapters.The background,requirements and significance of the translation task constitute the first chapter.The second chapter describes the theoretical basis and the specific process of translation.The third chapter is the most important part of this report.The author chooses some typical cases to analyze,explores the translation strategies and skills of scientific thesis,and combines translation theory with practice.The fourth chapter is the conclusion.The author hopes to provide some references for future translation practice by summarizing the shortcomings and experiences in the process of translation practice.
