A Study On Folk Communication Concept In Folk Proverbs

This paper belongs to the category of research on the history of dissemination of ideas in ancient China.The paper takes folk proverbs as materials to study folk communication concepts and their characteristics.Proverbs written and disseminated by ordinary people are rooted in folk.Proverbs are important carriers of folk culture and concept.This paper makes a study of ancient Chinese communication thoughts from the perspective of folk communication and is inspired by the study of new historiography which focuses on the lives of ordinary people and folk cultureThe paper tends to Skinner’s Historical Contextualism as methodology.The paper focuses on the background of the formation of folk ideas and the influence of ideas on the behavior of folk communication by quoting folk tales.The paper collects proverbs from threes books named ‘folk proverbs’ and ‘The wisdom of ancient aphorisms’ and ‘ Roots of Wisdom’.The paper sums up the concept of folk communication in ancient China into four aspects include the idea of golden mean,the idea of self-reflection,the idea of implicit and the idea of faith.The paper reorganizes the material on this basis and explain the meaning of the text.After the research,we found the following.The ideas of golden mean refers to people should uphold the principles of moderation and loyalty in social interactions.This requires moderation and tolerance for people.This concept has gone to the other extreme in the development of the folk,for example,people are not distinguish between right and wrong.This reflects the alienation of Confucian doctrine of the mean among the people.The ideas of self-reflection refers to people should have the consciousness and ability of self-reflection in social.In the face of the slander of others,people should not be in a hurry to argue,but to reflect on themselves.The purpose of doing this is to improve ourselves’ cultivation.The ideas of implicit refers to people should hide their money,talents and talk less or nosing to stay away from the evil in social.The ideas of faith refers to people should treat people with sincerity,honest and trustworthy in social.People should not deceive others and doubt others when they communicate with oters.Relying on the same historical background,the four concepts of folk communication complement and echo each other in content.The above shows the introversion characteristic of Chinese folk communication.This is embodied in the lack of communication and focus on themselves and privacy.In addition,the folk concept is open and inclusive,which is easily influenced by mainstream and elite thoughts.In the research,we found that there is a fusion and resistance between the folk concept and the elite thought.This paper also gives some consideration to this two-way interaction.
