A Study On Gong Xian’s Painting Style And Artistic Thought

Gong Xian is one of the most important landscape painters in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty.He has a unique style of "black Gong" in the painting history of the 17 th century.Through combing Gong Xian’s research history,analyzing the painters’ paintings in different periods,studying his painting theories and inscriptions,this paper finally puts forward some views on his style,evolution,painting techniques,artistic thoughts and historical influence.The first chapter of this paper is the summary of the research.It traces back to the main research achievements of Chinese and foreign scholars in Gong Xian’s technique research,life textual research and theoretical innovation since modern times.The second chapter discusses the evolution of Gong Xian’s artistic features and techniques in three stages,and then studies the styles,techniques and achievements of White Gong,Grey Gong and Black Gong in turn,combining with the handed down paintings and theories.In the third chapter,the most valuable and influential theories are abstracted from Gong Xian’s various painting theories and inscriptions and postscripts.Combined with practice,the inheritance and innovation of ancient painting theories,the theoretical contribution in painting education and technique summary,and the influence on later generations are discussed in turn.
