A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Current News From Huanqiu Website

With the rapid development of information globalization,it has become a common method for China’s media to translate news from abroad.As a leading international consulting portal in China,Huanqiu Website owns independent editorial rights of Chinese and English bilingual news.The author,entrusted and requested by Huanqiu Website,have translated some current news from it.The current news of Huanqiu Website is mainly originated form Reuters,BBC and VOA.With authenticity and timeliness,current news delivers the recent information on politics,economy,society and so on.It uses expressive diction with the majority of written vocabulary.The sentence pattern of current news is complete and standard and general past tense and general perfect tense are often adopted.Besides,this kind of text is characterized by prominent information highlights and logical discourse.Translators should guarantee the currency and truth of original information delivery and the translation should follow the means of expression and thinking logic of the target readers.However,there are plenty of differences between Chinese and English thinking method and life experience.The Translation Strategies proposed by Paul Kussmaul are favorable for creating fine translation by reshaping the frame or others.Therefore,this thesis,guided by Kussmaul’s Translation Strategies,analyzes this translation practice from title translation,lead translation and body translation of current news.This practice report is divided into four chapters.The first chapter describes translation task,including background of translation task,text introduction and client’s requirements.The second chapter explicitly records the translation process: before,during and after the translation.The third chapter discusses case analysis to demonstrate the utility of Kussmaul’s Translation Strategies on the title,lead and body translation of current news.The last chapter summarizes the practice findings,results and inadequacy.This practice report creatively adopts Translation Strategies proposed by Paul Kussmaul on the current news translation from Huanqiu Website,with the purpose of providing method reference for translation of this kind of text as well as advancing the development of Kussmaul’s Translation Strategies in terms of translation study.
