| The trend of big characters in Ming Dynasty is a very characteristic phenomenon in the history of Chinese calligraphy.The prosperity of this big-character fashion in the early stage was mainly led by the need of emperors to propagate their ethical and educational functions.During this period,the large-character calligraphy including plaques,lists and other forms swept through for a time.In the middle and late Ming Dynasty,with the development of commodity economy and the turbulence of social environment,under the guidance of Wang Yangming’s "mind learning" and Li Zhi’s "theory of childlike innocence",cursive scripts with big characters in late Ming Dynasty became popular and highlightened the Ming Dynasty’s calligraphy.In the Qing Dynasty,for the political needs,rulers advocated the plaque and other characters,while suppressing the new and innovative style of cursive writing.To the contemporary era,with the progress of writing materials and the emergence of a large number of historical materials of calligraphy,as well as under the influence of the "exhibition hall effect",large-character cursive scripts were popular from the end of last century to the beginning of this century.However,large-character cursive scripts are almost silent due to the modern people’s pursuit of writing skills and formal beauty such as "formalism" and "expressionism",This paper mainly studied the art of big characters in Ming Dynasty,the reasons for the prosperity of big characters in Ming Dynasty and its influence on later generations.Based on the analysis of the needs of social and historical development and the change of the calligraphers themselves,this paper clarifies the context of the development of the Ming Dynasty big character fashion,and sums up the characteristics of the Ming Dynasty calligraphy in combination of works analysis.Besides,this paper basically clarifies the trend of the development of Chinese characters in the present age via analyzing and summarizing the works of previous national exhibitions.Furthermore,Graduation work creation was carried out in combination of my own comprehension. |
