Metaphor and metonymy is one of the important thinking tools.Our body organs are the starting point of human understanding of the world.So our hands and foot are important body parts for us.Beyond the straightforward meaning,hands and foot on cognitive metaphor is very broad and abundant.With the same knowledge and experience,Chinese and Thai use same body organs to understand and describe other unfamiliar or abstract things,and build many of the same body organs of metonymy and metaphor.In order to compare the characteristics Chinese and Thai’s metaphor and metaphor about ‘hands’ and ‘foot’,can prove that metaphor and metonymy are the basic cognitive thinking and conceptual ways for humans.This article describes the extended meaning of‘hand’and ‘foot’ from the perspective of cognitive linguistics.Trying to reveal the similarities and differences about the Chinese and Thai’s metaphors and metonymies of ‘hand’ and ‘foot’,exploring their cognitive thinking processes,compare the individuality and commonality of the Chinese and Thai’s extended meaning of‘hand’and ‘foot’.Although there are many similarities between the ‘hands’ and ‘foot’ in the cognitive mechanism of the Chinese and Thai nationalities,there are also local differences.The fact of cross-language indicates that body words in different languages have common types of metaphor and metonymy,and there are personality differences in common types of metaphor and metonymy.Due to the differences of national etiquette culture,cultural system,thinking mode and material culture in Chinese and Thailand,there are local differences in metonymy and metaphor.Therefore,it is necessary to analyze the similarities and differences of "hand,foot and foot" in Chinese and Thailand from a cross-cultural perspective.
