| Zhao Mengfu was the most famous calligrapher in the Yuan Dynasty. He is in a prominent position even in the history of calligraphy. In the past, most of the studies on Zhao Mengfu focused on his life, calligraphy thought and calligraphy style. Most studies tended to explore all aspects and wide fields of calligraphy works, but rarely involved taking a classic work in Zhao Mengfu’s calligraphy works as an example to make a detailed and in-depth exploration of his works,so as to give inspiration to our own calligraphy copying and creation.Taking the best work of Zhao Mengfu’s life — cursive handwriting the First and Second Ode for the Red Cliff as an example, this paper makes an in-depth study of his calligraphy techniques, structure and rules,in which the author understands the significance of Zhao Mengfu’s restoring ancient ways and combines his calligraphy experience to guide his own calligraphy copying and creative practice, and expounds the enlightenment to his calligraphy.Zhao Mengfu’s life experience and evaluation: Although Zhao Mengfu was a high-ranking official in the Yuan Dynasty,he was criticized by later generations for bending his knees and losing his integrity in the Yuan Dynasty.People always associate moral quality with the level of calligraphy and regard Zhao’s calligraphy as extremely “vulgar”.However,Zhao Mengfu chose to be an official in the Yuan Dynasty because he had to give in to the established environment. When he was favored by the emperor, with the stability of his political position,he would immediately make the “calligraphy restoring ancient ways” thought inherited from the “first emperor” Zhao Gou known to the public.Zhao restored calligraphy ancient ways to the Jin and Tang dynasties, from learning Zhiyong,Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi, and then to learning Li Yong, inheriting the style of writing, recreating the structure, and creating new methods. His retro is not only limited to the pure “retro” of calligraphy, but also the comprehensive retro of Chinese culture such as poetry, painting, stamps and so on.Zhao Mengfu’s contribution to the inheritance and development of culture will be remembered by history and cannot be destroyed. The second chapter conducts the research on Zhao Mengfu’s cursive handwriting techniques of the First and and Second Ode for the Red Cliff and shows the work copying.Through the study of Su Shi’s life and the moment when writing the First and and Second Ode for the Red Cliff,we can fully understand the inner feelings that Zhao Mengfu wanted to express when he wrote these two odes.In this paper, through a large number of pictures and rational analysis,Zhao Mengfu’s calligraphy technique, structure and rule are discussed.Furthermore,it studies the exquisite techniques of the First and and Second Ode for the Red Cliff which was written with affection, and combines the relevant theory with practice to express feelings. The third chapter shows the inspiration and reflection on the creation.Creation is the premise of this chapter,in which the creation process is described in detail, from topic selection to creation, from style reference to the innovation of rules and regulations. There is both destruction and construction in the creation. After the creation, combined with the phenomenon of contemporary calligraphy,a lot of enlightenment has been obtained, which objectively shows that learning and thinking are complementary. In a word, the author holds that the calligraphy learners should not only understand the life and thoughts of the learning model, but also make clear the connotation and background of copybook for calligraphy.Calligraphy learning is a kind of all-round study.By learning its techniques and theories, learners should make use of what they have learned, learn from others, and be diligent and thoughtful. The combination of theory and practice can be regarded as the correct way to learn calligraphy. |
