Tianjin YMCA And Modern Tianjin Sports Research(1895-1937)

Tianjin is an important industrial and commercial city rising in modern times.Due to its unique geographical location,economic conditions and political and cultural environment,many major historical events and activities of historical figures took place in Tianjin,thus it became one of the centers of cultural exchange and collision between the east and the west in modern China.After the port was opened in 1860,Tianjin became one of the earliest cities where modern western sports culture was introduced into China.Sports activities such as basketball,baseball,softball,gymnastics and track and field were first introduced to Tianjin and then to the whole country.On December 8,1895,Tianjin YMCA,the first city ymca in China,was established.After the establishment of Tianjin YMCA,it actively promoted new sports events,cultivated local sports talents,organized various sports meetings,and built indoor and outdoor stadiums,which promoted the development of modern sports in Tianjin.On the basis of the relevant historical materials of Tianjin YMCA collected in Tianjin-based Ta Kung Pao,Yi Shi Bao and archives at home and abroad,this paper conducts a systematic research by using the method of literature research,and attempts to explore the influence of Tianjin YMCA on sports in modern Tianjin,which is divided into five parts:The first part mainly introduces the origin of YMCA and the establishment process of YMCA in China,and sorts out the background and process of the establishment of YMCA in Tianjin.The second part discusses the systematic introduction of western sports by Tianjin YMCA,including the introduction of western sports,the training of sports talents and the construction of sports venues.The third part mainly sorted out the Tianjin YMCA through the organization of inter-city and domestic sports competitions,to strengthen the Tianjin and other areas of the domestic sports exchanges,promote the development of modern Tianjin competitive sports.The fourth part describes that Tianjin YMCA actively promotes traditional martial arts,women’s sports and children’s sports through mass media and public speeches.The fifth part starts from the vein of modern Tianjin sports development and analyzes how Tianjin YMCA promotes the two-way communication and integration of Chinese and western sports culture in modern Tianjin.
