| Logical thinking refers to the ability of thinking reasonably and correctly,that is to observe,compare,analyze,synthesize,summarize,abstract,judge and infer things(Zhang Mei,2017: 10).“The overall objective of this stage is to promote students’ mental development,integrated and humanistic quality by learning English to make them form a preliminary comprehensive language application ability”(Ministry of Education,2012: 7).Meanwhile,“students are required to understand the logical relationship among the sentences in the paragraphs to find the theme of the article,understand the plot of the story and predict the development of the storyline and possible endings in reading”(Ministry of Education,2012: 13).Thus it can be seen the teachers have to start with the cultivation of logical thinking and other abilities if they’d like to promote the mental development of junior high school students.In doing so,students can be helped to observe,understand,judge,select,memorize,imagine,presume and infer things.What’s more,their behaviors of learning can be instructed by the teachers.The research,which is based on the theories of Schema,Bloom’s Taxonomy and Constructivism,conducts four-month teaching practice by the ways of questionnaire,reading test,classroom observation,interviews,pre-test and post-test in Class 1 Grade 7 with 43 students who are from No.10 Junior High School at Shengli Road in Xinxiang City.The aim is to research the impact of the teaching of English reading on the logical thinking of junior high school students.The research mainly answers two questions:(1)What are the impacts of the teaching of English reading on junior high school students’ logical thinking?(2)Are there any other impacts of the changes of students’ logical thinking on their holistic English study? If yes,what are they?The results are shown as below:(1)The teaching of English reading exerts a more obvious impact on the improvement of junior high students’ logical thinking,such as observation,inference,analysis and Judgement.(2)The impacts of the improvement of junior high students’ logical thinking on their holistic English study are shown in three aspects.Firstly,more students’ attitude towards learning English has been changed.Previously,students’ attitude towards learning English is unconscious and not to matter.Afterwards,they love to learn it and want to study it.Secondly,the scores of their English test have been improved obviously,especially for the scores of listening and reading.Thirdly,their intercultural awareness has been cultivated,which is shown in the learning of thinking mode and cultural diversity between China and the West. |
