A Report On The Translation Of Chapter One Of Diversity And Fairness In The Jury System

This is a report on the translation of Chapter 1 of Diversity and Fairness in the Jury System,a legal scholarly work introducing a British jury research project conducted by the Ministry of Justice of UK.Chapter 1 of the book provides an outline of British jury system and its characteristics(fairness and diversity).This report introduces the translation process and explores the translation skills of two most frequently used clauses in the source text – attributive clauses and adverbial clauses.Based on the translation skills concluded in previous studies and the differences between English and Chinese,the report proposes three skills of attributive clause translation,namely,fronting,division and conversion.As for the translation of adverbial clauses,the report also proposes three skills: retention,reversion and conversion.The purpose of this report is to summarize the translation practice and to put forward effective translation skills for the translation of attributive clauses and adverbial clauses in legal scholarly works,with a view to providing some references for the translation of similar texts.
