| This report is based on the E-C translation of an excerpted part from Media Piracy in the Cultural Economy published by Routledge Focus in 2019.By analyzing the source text at lexical,syntactic and textual level,the translator summarized the characteristics of the source text as follows: terminologies are widely used and some word meanings changed under the context of the source text.The source text contains numbers of long and complex sentences.Logic connections among sentences and paragraphs is of vital importance.Therefore,how to make the translation coherent and readable is a problem.Guided by Skopos Theory,questions above have been solved appropriately.In light of fidelity rule,terminologies are defined by reading parallel text and corresponding professional documents.Word meanings are clarified by analyzing the context of source text.According to the purpose of the source text and expectation of target readers,translator adopts several translation methods such as combination,division,shift on long and complex sentences,which also contributes a lot to the coherence of the translation.For example,redundant and repeat information are integrated by method of combination.As a result,the target text is more concise and acceptable for target readers.To maintain the logic connections between paragraphs,sequence of sentence are adjusted based on coherent rule.Three rules are fully used for dealing with different problems at different levels in translating process.Finally,after self-proofreading and target reader proofreading,the translator invites the supervisor to further proofread,as an insurance to the quality of translated text.The report shows the whole process of the translation practice.Skopos Theory is applied to tackle problems in translation,which may provide possible reference for translation guided by Skopos Theory. |
