| The translation report is based on the translation of the source text excerpted from The Age of Anne written by the English educator and historian Edward Ellis Morris.The book is a piece of English historic documentary literature beginning with the vacancy of Spanish throne.There is a theme of the War of the Spanish Succession that runs through it focusing on Queen Anne’s diplomatic policies of major European countries and personnel management of relevant figures supported by descriptions about battles,party conflicts,domestic and foreign affairs,and succession of the throne.Thus,positive and negative comments of Queen Anne,the Monarch of England and later of Great Britain are honestly presented to readers in an objective and multi-dimensional way,which provides valuable reference for scholars and researchers of Western history and culture.The translator is responsible for Chapter 8-16 in this book,wishing to provide English learners interested in western history and history educators with better historical documentary materials so that they can have a more comprehensive understanding of historical figures,events and wars of that period.This report is based on the translating of Chapter 8-16 of The Age of Anne.Taking Gideon Toury’s Translation Norms Theory as the guiding theory,the translator employed the domestication and foreignization translation strategies with domestication as the major strategy.The translator adopted translation methods of free translation,transliteration and literal translation,as well as the translation techniques of division,combination,shift,and addition.In the process of translation,the above translation methods and techniques are applied flexibly to achieve better results.This report consists of five parts.The first part introduces the source text and its author,as well as the purpose and significance of the translation.The second part analyzes the stylistic and linguistic features of the source text and introduces the theories and translation methods adopted.The third part outlines the translation practice process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and proofreading.The fourth part elaborates the key and difficult points,translation strategies,methods and techniques in translation.The fifth is a summary of the report which summarized the gains of the translator and points out the limitations of the translation practice. |
