| As an effective input way of information acquisition and knowledge accumulation,English reading is not only an important part of senior English teaching,but also a significant premise of developing students’ English comprehensive ability.The current National English Curriculum Standards for general High School(2017 edition)emphasizes the important role of English reading as a receptive skill that promotes the development of expressive skills in English learning activities.However,the senior reading teaching model based on the explanations of vocabulary and grammar is still exists at present,and many teachers tend to pay more attention to teaching rather than learning.Thus,the traditional reading teaching method restricts the improvement of students’ reading literacy.Lexical Approach advocates that the learners should read in lexical chunks and focus on the meaning of the whole text.It helps to make up for the shortcomings of traditional teaching method and help students to get rid of the inefficiency of word by word reading.Since Lewis(1993)proposed Lexical Approach,many scholars have applied Lexical Approach to second language teaching and conducted a quantity of empirical studies.The results demonstrated the importance of Lexical Approach in senior English reading teaching.Thus,the thesis aims to explore the effects of Lexical Approach based English reading teaching model on students’ English reading.102 subjects were selected from two parallel classes in No.1 Senior High School in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture,and were divided into experimental class(EC)and control class(CC)respectively.The author applied the Lexical Approach in the EC,while the CC used traditional teaching method during the 12-week experiment.Both classes are taught by the author,and the teaching plan and content are consistent.Besides,the experimental data are analyzed by SPSS17.0,and the comparison between the results of the pre-test and the post-test proves the effectiveness of Lexical Approach in senior English reading teaching.The findings show that the application of Lexical Approach in English reading teaching can effectively improve students’ reading ability and their English reading habits.Although there still some limitations in this study,the author hopes that the Lexical Approach can enlighten and help teachers’ reading teaching in the future. |
