| English is a necessary tool for international communication.The English Curriculum Standards(2011)in China emphasizes the importance of students’oral English ability.However,the traditional English teaching of junior middle school in China is centered on examinations,only focusing on the teaching of students’English vocabulary and grammar,and taking students’scores in the exams as the goal of all teaching.So the oral English ability of students cannot be effectively improved,the students’interest in oral English gradually decreases.Therefore,it is very important to find effective methods to enhance students’oral ability in English.It is of great help to explore the current situation of students’oral ability in English and the major affecting factors.In order to explore the current situation and existing problems of junior middle school students’oral English ability,this study takes Tangshan M Middle School as an example and uses the oral English scores of CET-SET as a scale template combined with evaluation standards of spoken English in English Curriculum Standards(2011)in China to evaluate 300 students of Grade 9 in Tangshan M Middle School.The evaluation standards consist of three aspects:accuracy and range,lengthy talk and coherence,and flexibility and adaptability.Afterwards,through a questionnaire survey on 300 students and interviews with six teachers,major affecting of junior Middle students’ oral ability.There are three research questions.(1)How about the current situation of junior Middle students’ oral English competence at the overall level?(2)How about the current situation of junior Middle students’ oral ability on component level and what are the main problems?(3)What are the main factors affecting junior Middle students’oral ability?The scoring reliability analysis and validity analysis of oral English ability were analyzed to make sure the data is convincing enough.The results of the study show that the students’ oral English competence is at a medium level.Most students are able to complete spoken tasks basically accurately and fluently,but they were weak with communication strategies,and they speak with flat tone,without ups and downs,and they are lack of flexibility and adaptability in the process of completing oral tasks.Corresponding main influencing factors are students’ own factors related to students’ learning factors and students’ emotional factors;teachers and teaching factors related to environmental factors,teaching behaviors and teaching ideas.Based on the above discussion,the author has propose some etiotropic measures and suggestions on how to improve junior Middle school students’ oral English ability,in order to help junior Middle school students’oral English ability improve. |
