| Writing has always been an important part of English teaching in senior high school.And it serves as one of the criteria of measuring students’ English language ability.On the one hand,English writing reflects students’ mastery of English knowledge.On the other hand,it also reflects whether students can use what they have learned coherently.The use of lexical cohesive devices to organize language can make the writing more fluent and coherent.Therefore,teachers should impart students the knowledge of using various lexical cohesive devices to improve writing quality.Based on Halliday and Hasan’s classification of lexical cohesive devices,this paper will study the use of lexical cohesive devices and analyze the cohesive errors in senior high school students’ English writing,to provide references for the teaching of English writing.On the basis of lexical cohesive devices theory and error analysis theory,this paper uses the methods of text analysis,questionnaire and interview to study 120 writings in Nanchong senior high school.It puts forward the following two questions: 1.What are the errors of lexical cohesive devices in senior high school students’ English writing? 2.What are the causes of lexical cohesive device errors in senior high school students’ English writing?Through the analysis of the use of lexical cohesive devices,the distribution and the causes of cohesive errors in writing,the following conclusions are drawn :Firstly,in students’ English writing,simple repetition is used most frequently,which is followed by collocation.Still,collocation errors account for a large proportion due to the negative transfer of the mother tongue.According to the frequency of occurrence,other lexical cohesive devices are general words,complex repetition,synonym,antonym and hyponym.Secondly,the errors in the use of various cohesive devices are mainly from simple repetition and collocation.Thirdly,the analysis shows that the main reasons for lexical errors are students’ low English language ability,negative transfer of the students’ mother tongue,students’ indifference to feedback in English writing and teachers’ ignorance of input about lexical cohesive devices.Therefore,to improve the quality of students’ writing,students must grasp the ways of using various lexical cohesive devices by themselves.Besides,teachers should pay attention to the input of cohesive devices in the teaching of English writing to cultivate students’ awareness of using cohesive devices in English writing. |
