| Code-switching refers to the bilingual phenomenon or bilingual behavior of using two languages alternately in the same turn or different turns.As a sociolinguistic phenomenon,code-switching also exists in English class which is important places for the construction of knowledge.Therefore,code-switching is a common phenomenon in English class and an important means of communication between teachers and students.Based on the previous research on code-switching,this thesis aims to analyze the real situation of code-switching in senior high school English classes with the Adaptation Theory as the guidance.The research subjects are 4 English teacher and 212 students in four classes of a senior high school in Changchun.The research mainly aims to find the distribution,characteristics and causes of code-switching in teacher-student interaction in English classes.In this paper,quantitative and qualitative research methods are used.The author recorded and observed one lesson about art in four classes respectively,and then transcribed,analyzed and studied the recorded content,and gets the findings:First of all,combined with data analysis,according to Poplack’s classification of code-switching,the study found that the distribution of three types of code-switching: inter-sentential switching is the most,intra-sentential switching is the second,and extra switching is the least.Secondly,according to Verschueren’s adaptation theory,this paper finds the characteristics of code switching are variability,negotiability and adaptability.Finally,according to adaptation theory,the causes of code-switching are analyzed,including linguistic reality and psychological motivation.Among them,the linguistic reality includes filling the linguistic gap,emphasis and convenience,and the psychological motivation includes promoting the teaching process and shortening the distance.Through the research,we can understand the distribution,characteristics,and the causes of teacher-student’s code-switching.This provides future researchers with some theoretical basis for studying the adaption theory and enriches theoretical research on code-switching in high school English classes,and this research has some implications for high school English teachers and students. |
