A Study On The Language And Charactersof Place Names In Huizhou

Place names are a special type of vocabulary system in Chinese,and their function is to divide each geographical area.It is the product of the development of human society,and with the development of social culture,the cultural load of the place names themselves has been continuously expanded.As a special cultural phenomenon,it has a rich connotation of history,geography,economy,ethnicity,society and other disciplines.This article takes the administrative place names in Huizhou area as the research object,and the data sources are from the National Bureau of Statistics’ s official website 2019 statistical division and urban-rural division code place name data.A statistical analysis of 1169 administrative place names in the existing cities and counties in the ancient Huizhou area is summarized.Its main features: the general name "mountain water" and the special name "refined".And use this as an entry point to explore the causes of place names in Huizhou: natural and human causes.The natural causes of Huizhou place names are summarized into two parts: one is natural objects,including mountains,water,flora and fauna,and landscape phenomena;the second is topographic features,which are divided into three categories: mountains,water,and soil.Human factors are also divided into two categories,including general human factors,such as historical products,historical factors,religion and folk beliefs,folk psychology,etc.;and special human factors with local characteristics of Huizhou: Hui cultural factors.Huizhou culture has the characteristics of combining commercial culture,Confucian culture and patriarchal culture.The influence of commercial and Confucian culture is hidden.They subtly promote the elegance of Huizhou place names.The influence of patriarchal culture on Huizhou place names is obvious.Itdirectly affects the appearance of place names.A large number of villages with surnames can help us understand the living distribution of local clans.Based on historical documents such as the Ming and Qing county records and the local name records compiled by the local government after the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the historical context of place names was explored,and the causes of evolution and the rules of change were summarized.According to the place name data recorded in the place name records of the counties in Huizhou,five reasons for the change in the wording of place names are summarized:one is the change of the dialect.For example,due to the confluence of the fine mother chapter and the mother in the dialect,the tip of the pit becomes the head of the pit;It is refined,for example,pig shape was changed to Zhu shape due to indecent pig characters,and dog belly was changed to Qingshan Bay due to indecent;clan factors,such as Yu village changed to Yuhuang village due to the relocation of the Huang family name;four is Jane province,such as Xianfu Village became Xiancun Village and Wuli Bridge became Wuli Bridge.Five are factors of social change,such as Shiheng Street and Cross Street being changed to Jiefang Road and Shengli Road after liberation.In addition,according to the historical statistics of geographical names,some historical rules of geographical names are summarized,such as the wide-ranging of the place names with the word "chuan",the mixed use of "chong-chong-cun",and the evolution of Yaoyao to Yao.There are still some special local characters in the county directory of Huizhou.
