International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education(Revised Edition)(hereinafter referred to as ICCLE)is the latest curriculum for teaching Chinese as a second language,which has been widely promoted worldwide.This thesis takes Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 and Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4 of ICCLE as the object of research,utilizes the data of Reports on Chinese Language Situation(2019)to do frequency statistics on level-4 characters and level-4 words and phrases,and explores the relationship between Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 and Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4 from several aspects such as ratio of characters to words and phrases,the ability of characters to form words and phrases,the level distribution and differences of the character species between Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 and Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4.In addition,the essay makes a contrastive analysis on HSK Standard Course 1-4 and Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 and Common Chinese Words from the perspective of teaching practice.The research results show that the compilation of Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 and Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4 substantially follows the principle of high-frequency optimization,basically adapts to the current situation of Chinese language life.It takes into account the daily needs and emotional factors of learners,which is of great importance in guiding the compilation of textbook for teaching Chinese as a second language.However,some problems still exist:(1)Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 is slightly flawed in the classification process;(2)Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4 is partly lagging in terms of words and phrases selection;(3)Compared with Chinese native speakers’ wording and other curriculums for teaching Chinese as a second laguage,the level-4 ratio of characters to words and phrases is seriously low.(4)More than half of level-4 character species only form one word or phrase in Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4,which does not make full use of word-forming ability of the level-4 characters;(5)There is a mismatch between Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 and Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4.Based on the above findings,this thesis attempts to propose some suggestions for the revision and improvement of Common Chinese Characters for Level 4 and Common Chinese Words and Phrases for Level 4 of ICCLE.
