Since the international competition goes more and more hotly,more importance has been attached to the training of talents.The goal of education is to identify and nurture talents who are good at thinking.As for thinking,the National English Curriculum Standards for Common Senior High School released by the Ministry of Education of China in 2017 has subdivided it into logical,critical,creative thinking and so on,and regarded it as the necessary quality that students should possess.In addition,the Curriculum Standards says that good thinking quality can help students meet the needs of social and lifelong development.Hence,as the ultimate aim of fostering students’ thinking quality,the cultivation of mind is of great significance for students.In view that thinking is an immanent act of human brain,so the development of thinking is an implicit process.However,English teaching under the guidance of information processing theory will be conducive to making the process explicit and visualized.This helps the English teachers guide and monitor the development of students’ thinking and promote the cultivation of their mind.In order to know the process of cultivating students’ mind in English classroom teaching,this study is carried out on the theoretical foundation of information processing,and takes English classroom teaching cases as the researching carrier.It attempts to take the development of students’ logical,critical and creative thinking as the point cut to discuss how the information processing theory guide the cultivation of students’ mind in the classroom teaching.Furthermore,this study explores some effective methods and strategies to cultivate students’ mind under the guidance of information processing theory as well.This study uses the qualitative research methods of case analysis,literature research and classroom observation.The samples here come from the English classroom teaching cases produced by three English teachers from the same school.It is found that the information processing theory can help guide the English teacher to design and implement teaching activities and events.In this way,thestudents’ learning process is affected,and thus their thinking and mind get developed.It is also found that group discussing,brainstorming,drawing mind map and questioning are all effective ways to cultivate students’ mind;meanwhile,the English teachers should also create a high-quality classroom atmosphere for students,and carry out various classroom activities,and establish an attitude of teaching for thinking,and improve the way students are assessed to provide good external environment and more motivation for them to cultivate their mind.This thesis is composed of six chapters,the chapters are independent of each other and intrinsically related.By deeply discussing and analyzing the relations between mind and thinking,this study aims to explore effective methods and strategies of cultivating students’ mind in English classroom teaching under the guidance of information processing theory.It is expected that the study’s conclusions are able to provide some reference and enlightenment for the English teachers and educators who are dedicated to cultivating students’ mind.
