Among various criteria for interpreting quality assessment, the importance of fluency cannot be underestimated.Frequent disfluency in interpreting may result in misunderstanding of the information and the audience may lose trust in the interpreter. For interpreters themselves, disfluency will make them even more nervous and the quality of interpenetration will be affected.Based on the mock conference "The Problem of Refugee Education under the Epidemic",the case is going to explore the reasons behind disfluency in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting and how to avoid it.Disfluencey in this case is divided into four categories: repetition,self-repairs,improper filled pauses, and improper silent pauses and the thesis also analyzed the reasons behind disfluency. The study found that the main reasons for disfluency in this English-Chinese consecutive interpreting are: insufficient background knowledge, improper notes, mediocre Chinese, insufficient self-monitoring,and anxiety. To solve these issues, this thesis provides some strategies, including paying more attention on preparations and background information collection, optimizing note-taking strategies, like improving note symbols, adjusting notes, improving Chinese quality by practicing retelling, strengthening self-monitoring,and trying to stay calm.It is almost impossible to completely avoid disfluency in interpreting. However, through more practice, improving note-taking and keeping calm when interpreting, interpreters can reduce disfluency as much as possible.
