| As the winner of Nobel Prize for Literature and a famous novelist,William Faulkner remains a mysterious individual to many Chinese readers.The source text of this translation task is a biography of William Faulkner.The author intends to explore the translation skills of biography and sum up translation strategies of biography,and expects to provide some reference for related translation research.The source text of this report is an excerpt from Myself and the World:A Biography of William Faulkner Chapters Seven to Eleven,which is a biography composed by the University Press of Mississippi on 2 June,2016.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,considering linguistic and stylistic features of the source text,different skills and strategies are applied by the author to solve the difficulties encountered in translation and to render the content objectively.On the basis of the translation practice,the translation report consists of four chapters:Chapter One describes the translation task,including background information of the source text,features of the text and the objectives and significance of the practice.Chapter Two deals with the process of translation,including the preliminary preparation,translation process and quality control.Chapter Three,a major part of the report,analyzes the cases in accordance with Functional Equivalence Theory at the lexical,syntactic,and discourse levels.Chapter Four presents the inspiration and experience of the author during the process of translation,and unsolved problems draw from the translation task. |
