A Report On E-C Translation Of "Translation And Foreign Relations:Between Tradition And Modernity"

Language is the reflection of social politics and economy in a certain period.The development of Swahili reflects the evolution of politics,economy and culture in African countries.The translation studies based on Swahili shows that translation is not just a linguistic process,but also a complex interaction between culture,history,and politics.Through a systematic description of the evolution of the translation process in East Africa from precolonial,colonial to post-colonial periods,it provides readers with experience and reference for translation studies.What’s more,it helps people to better understand Swahili and further explore the cultural blueprint behind translation.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation,the source text is taken from the book entitled Cultural Politics of Translation:East Africa in a Global Context,which was written by Alamin M.Mazrui.It was published by Routledge in 2016.As a kind of academic texts,the selected chapter "Translation and Foreign Relations:Between Tradition and Modernity" probes into some hot issues in the relationships between translation and cultural politics and explains the profound influence of Swahili development in today’s society,which is of great significance to the development and research of China-African relations.This report consists of four chapters.Chapter One is the task description which includes the introduction of the source text,features of the source text,and the research background and significance.Chapter Two describes the task process,which mainly introduces preparations before translation,translation process,and quality control.Chapter Three is the case analysis,the most important part of the report,which mainly discusses the translation strategies and methods of academic texts from lexical,syntactic and discourse levels based on Newmark’s communicative translation.Chapter Four makes a summary of the experience and lessons of translation as well as the unsolved problems.Through the analysis of the translation practice of the source text,the translator’s understandings of such kind of text is enhanced,and the translator’s ability to study and research academic texts is improved.It is hoped that the report can provide certain references for the future translation of academic texts.
