The Feminine Consciousness In Chi Li’s Novels

Feminine consciousness is the awareness of the status,role,and value of women—the principal part in the objective world.In 1990s,a special period in Chinese history,feminine consciousness had gradually arisen;the connotation of it was also enhanced by the development of Chinese history and social changes.At the transition of this era,feminine consciousness is now much stronger than any time in the past with its improved connotation.Chi Li,a representative writer of Neo-realism,reflected her feminine consciousness in her novels.She concerned about the psychological changes and developments in a female prospective,revealed the desires of love,conjugal lives and freedom in the deepest minds of women with her detailed and vivid description.Chi’s novels,which are representative in that era,strongly reflected feminine consciousness in Chinese feminine literature.In her works,Chi emphasized the personalities and values of women;what’s more,she created vivid female figures that had love and desires with her goals that to reveal the real women of the late 19th century.This thesis will divide into three chapters to analyze the characteristics and expressions of feminine consciousness in Chi Li’s novels from different aspects;discuss the female’s emotional appeal,maternity and self-growth in Chi Li’s novels,to highlight the unique feminine consciousness in Chi Li’s novels by comparing with other writers’ works;and to explore the different self-consciousness of female images created in Chi Li’s works in the 1990s.
