The source text of the project is an excerpt from the “5G Era: what is 5G and how will it change the world”(the “5G Era” for short),a popular science book.In this project, the translator found that the most prominent and common problem in C-E translation is transfer redundancy. Therefore, the focus of this report is how to correctly judge and deal with transfer redundancy.Single or multiple methods are adopted in this report to deal with different types of redundancy in the project to achieve the best social effect of translation.According to the researches of many scholars, the transfer redundancy in C-E translation refers to a negative transfer of the mother tongue which directly transfers the Chinese expression form into the target language instead of considering English expression habit. In part one of The Translator’s Guide to Chinglish,Pinkham talks about unnecessary words in Chinglish and classifies them into five kinds of redundancy. On this basis, this paper further divides it into lexical level and syntactic level, and describes their characteristics respectively to help judge the redundancy in the project.Under the premise of keeping the text information unchanged, the author proposes to deal with transfer redundancy in Chinese-English translation by omission, integration and substitution, making the translation faithful, smooth and concise.According to the report, for the redundancy in Chinese-English translation,it is necessary to correctly judge whether it is transfer redundancy, and then adopt effective translation methods to deal with it.It is hoped that the translation method proposed in this report can be used for reference in dealing with transfer redundancy in C-E translation.
