| As a well-known American writer in the 20 th century,Joseph Heller was called “the author of serious novels with the largest volume of sales in American history” and “the world’s top writer”.Joseph Heller’s works,though not numerous,are undoubtedly recognized as one of the most important classical writers of the 20 th century,and his works have had a profound influence on the American literature of future generations.Heller entered the reader’s field of vision as a master of black humor,but underneath the black humor there is a profound criticism of American society.Closing Time is the last work of Heller and also the sequel to Catch-22 and the work is more critical than the former.The power relationship displayed in different spaces in the novel provides the basis and possibility for our interpretation of the work from the perspective of space politics.This paper is divided into five chapter.The first chapter is the introduction,which briefly introduces the writer and his creation,combs and comments on the current research of Heller at home and abroad,and find out the current research direction and research results of Heller,so as to grasp the overall research situation.In addition,the related theories of spatial politics are briefly reviewed,the research value and significance of this paper are clarified,and the research ideas of this paper are put forward.The second chapter analyzes the living space and power issues in the works,starting from living space,classifying them,dividing living space into public living space and individual living space,and then exploring the relationship between living space and power.The third chapter discusses the power of living space.This chapter focuses on the different ways in which power penetrates into living space,to show that the penetration of power in New York in peacetime is omnipresent.The fourth chapter explores the deconstructed power space.On the basis of explaining the nature of power space and the relationship b etween power space and living space,this chapter further points out the way to deconstruct power space and explore the possibility of deconstruction of power space.The fifth chapter is the exploration of free space.This chapter in thinking about the living space is bound by the power relationship and at the same time there is the possibility of deconstruction,but the strength of deconstruction is not enough to confront the situation,it is particularly important to explore the possibility of individuals seeking free space.The conclusion part makes a final summary of this article,and reflects on the individual in the present space politics. |
