In this translation report, the translator chooses chapter 4 of Biography of Jiang Yiwu written by Zhou Xinglin as the source text of this translation practice. In recent years, more and more people pay attention to China and its culture.Chinese literature is more popular than before,so the accurate and high-quality Chinese-English translation is becoming increasingly vital. The translation practice is finished under the guidance of Nida’s Equivalence Function Theory. The core concept of this theory is achieving functional equivalence between source text(ST)and target text(TT)in the process of translation. It emphasizes the principle of equivalent effect and reader’s response, and pursues the closest natural equivalent translation with the source language information. This theory is of great significance in guiding the translation practiceBased on functional equivalence, the report gives detailed case analysis of the functional equivalence at the lexical, syntactic and textual level, and discusses how the translator chooses the proper translation methods to deal with the difficulties in the process of translation. The report consists of five parts including the introduction of the source text, translation process, translation theory, cases analysis and conclusion. It is hoped the translation practice can help foreign readers have a better understanding of Biography of Jiang Yiwu, and provide a reference for the translation of biography.
