Folklore photography is an important way to record the development of modern human society,and it is also one of the ways for humans to use modern imaging technology to understand themselves.As a special corner of China’s multi-ethnic structure,Tibetan culture has unique charm and research value.Photographer Xiaoyun Zheng has traveled to Tibet more than ten times to take pictures of Tibetan life since 1992,and has completed a broad sequence of Tibetan folklore images.His works have had an international impact and have won more than a dozen gold medals in famous international film festivals.The thesis takes the photo album "Snowy Scenery-Nomadic Culture of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau" as the main research object,discussing how Xiaoyun Zheng presents the folk customs of pastoral areas and also constructs his own special image world.On the basis of summarizing the types of Tibetan folk life and customs on the plateau,focusing on analyzing the main artistic methods used by photographers,revealing its aesthetic characteristics and artistic value.This article takes Xiaoyun Zheng’s Tibetan pastoral area(referring to the Ruoergai grassland,the same below)folk photography art works as the object of discussion,and closely links his video works with the cultural life of the Tibetan pastoral area,and clarifies that his pastoral photography is an important organic component in the category of Tibetan folk photography art..First,based on the overall development context of photography in Tibetan areas,Xiaoyun Zheng’s long-term and diligent photography experience and image content in Tibetan pastoral areas are analyzed,and his position in this context is given.Photographer Xiaoyun Zheng contributed the best time of his life to the visual expression of the life of Tibetan herdsmen.He is a photographer who expresses the rich and humane life in the pastoral areas.The image scenes and expressive personality are distinctive,and he is a fine piece of folk photography.Due to the relative lag of photography art criticism,Xiaoyun Zheng’s work may not be evaluated enough to show his achievements,but international and domestic awards are eye-catching,such as:"Sprayer Flags" won the 2014 Kumanovo International Photography Art Exhibition Color Gold Medal Award;"Herder" won the 2015 International Photography Touring Exhibition Portrait Category Gold Medal;"Pastoral" won the 2015 England International Photography Salon Gold Medal Award.Domestic awards such as "My Father.Brother and Sister" won the Gold Medal at the 2nd Hong Kong National Photography Exhibition;"Cooking Smoke" entered the 10th International Art Exhibition;"Wind and Snow Yellow River Source" entered the 11th International Art Exhibition(for details of the awards,see Appendix I).Secondly,it discusses the folklore content and performance characteristics of Xiaoyun Zheng’s photography in Tibetan areas,and analyzes three levels:First,photography is space art.The photographer expresses the real space in the space restricted by the optical machine,and realizes the connection between the real space and the frame space.This article discusses revealing Xiaoyun Zheng’s image expression space on two levels.The natural space highlights the characteristics of photography in Tibetan areas,and the social space and religious space that the photographer’s personalized connotation contains in the natural regional space.Second,the typical characters portrayed in the images are the basis of the family composition and social division of labor in the pastoral area,and reflect the characteristics of the combination of pastoral area animal husbandry and cottage industry.Third,the characteristics of folk custom presented are the spiritual connotation of folk custom extracted from the content of folk custom in the first two parts.The conclusion of this part:Xiaoyun Zheng’s video works are rich in sociological,anthropological,and folklore values.With the in-depth study of Tibetan culture,their empirical effects will also become prominent.Returning to the discussion of photography art itself,Xiaoyun Zheng’s value cannot be ignored.This article chooses the main ways to analyze Xiaoyun Zheng’s images:one is to look at the composition form and color aesthetics;the second is to grasp the representation and expression elements in his works,especially to highlight the characteristics of the image’s native aesthetics;the third is to establish images in Tibetan areas The structural framework,analyzed in comparison,comes down to the personality characteristics of Xiaoyun Zheng’s images.
