| A new and more objective research paradigm, corpus linguistics, has been provided to study the translator’s style.Xu Yuanchong, having been engaged in literary translation for more than 70 years, won the “Northern Light”---the outstanding literary translation award in 2014.It is one of the most important awards in the international translation study.Based on Mona Baker’s interpretation of the translator’s style and real corpus data, this thesis selects eight poetry works translated by Xu Yuanchong and uses the corpus-related software to study Xu Yuanchong’s translation style. The results obtaining at the lexical and syntactic level have been compared with the Corpus of Native English Poetry. The results indicate: STTR,the mean word length and the lexical density are lower than the Corpus of Native English Poetry. It suggests that Mr.Xu’s translation relatively conforms to English readers’ reading habits and the vocabulary is not so rich as the native English poetry. At the syntactic level, short sentences and long sentences are used alternatively to retain the original poem’s style. But the particular parameters are not so salient to describe Professor Xu Yuanchong’s translator’s style. This thesis chose to analyze “The Triple Beauties” in both quantitative and qualitative methods with the assistance of python and frame theory. As for the beauty of sound and form,Xu Yuanchong preferred using the rhythm of “aabb” and “abab”.The use of syllables formulates a certain tendency, and is corresponding with the characters. In terms of qualitative analysis,we have deconstructed Mr.Xu’s translation techniques and revealed the translator’s cognitive mechanisms. We found that Xu Yuanchong can not only maintain the flavor of the original poem but also overcome the asymmetric correspondence in the cultural and historical background when translating different symbols.Non-idealized frame operation makes the translation smooth and natural and perfectly retains the artistic conception of the text.Professor Xu Yuanchong has harmonized “The Triple Beauties”. |
