| English inversion is one of the significant parts of grammar teaching in senior high school.However,due to its complicated structure and flexible usage,the teaching strategies for English inversion is still to be further explored.Traditional inversion teaching mainly focuses on the superficial structure of inverted sentences,emphasizing the rules of the language phenomenon.Although this kind of teaching method can roughly explain the rules and sentence structure of inversion,it still just focus on the structural characteristics of inversion,while its underlying cognitive mechanism hasn’t been taken into consideration.Moreover,most of the students can just roughly understand inversion by rote memory through this way of teaching.Although it is possible for them to do well in the tests concerned with the rules of inversion by rote memory,it’s still hard to put the rules into use in real situation.This paper aims to use the Figure-Ground theory to analyze the structure and function of English inversion,and tries to implement it in senior high school inversion teaching practice.Three research questions are to be answered in this paper: First,what are the major problems existing in the present English inversion teaching?Second,how to design English inversion teaching based on the FGT? Third,what are the effects of FGT based English inversion teaching?As for the research instruments,the author used the interview and questionnaire to find out the present teaching situation of English inversion.The results show that many teachers apply the traditional teaching methods of English inversion,which focus on the teaching of grammatical rules of inverted structure.Through this way of teaching,students can hardly understand the underlying meaning and function of English inversion.Therefore,better teaching strategies are needed in current English inversion teaching practice.To testify the effectiveness of FGT based inversion teaching strategies,an experimental teaching was conducted in the research,in which the traditional teaching method and FGT English inversion teaching methods are applied in two classes separately.Questionnaires,tests and interviews are used the research in order to find out the effects of these two inversion teaching.The results shows that students in the experimental class have a better understanding of English inversion and more interest in learning inversion than the control class,which proves that Figure-Ground theory can improve the teaching of English inversion.In the end,the author proposes some teaching suggestions for English inversion teaching based on the Figure-Ground theory,with the hope of giving some enlightenment to the current teaching of English inversion. |
