Re-discussion On "Liao Ping And Kang Youwei Academic Public Case"

In his early years,Kang Youwei had not systematically expounded the idea of modern scripture,but after meeting with Liao Ping,he was influenced by him and made a sudden change in his thinking to modern scripture,which led to the so-called "academic case of Liao Ping and Kang Youwei"(hereinafter referred to as "the case").It was initially due to the "whitewashing" of Liao Ping and his disciples,followed by the attacks of Zhang Taiyan and other schools of ancient literature and Kang Youwei’s so-called "desire to conceal the truth",and then the pushing of Qian Mu and other scholars,which led to the conclusion that Kang Youwei had "plagiarized" Liao Ping’s teachings.The conclusion that Kang Youwei "plagiarized" the doctrine of Liao Ping.Due to the controversial evidence of "plagiarism",this "public case" still exists in the academic community,and gradually reflects a certain degree of inclusiveness to Kang Youwei,"plagiarism" tends to shake.Scholars either believe that Kang Youwei was deeply influenced by Liao Ping("influence theory")or that Liao Ping’s influence on him was dispensable("originality theory").The emergence of these new views is inseparable from the shift in the direction of argumentation,i.e.,from relying on the subjective speculations of Pi Xirui and Zhang Zhidong to the objective analysis of materials.On the basis of the above-mentioned academic views,there is still room for further exploration of the "public case".From the early works of Kang Youwei,we can see that his thinking had undergone two major changes before he met Liao Ping.The inner rationale of this change can also serve as one of the evidences of the "public case",which has not been noticed by the current academic community.Once the change of Kang Youwei’s thought is deeply understood from a macro perspective,it will be found that there are traces of the emergence of Kang Youwei’s thought on modern scripture,rather than the wholesale acceptance or copying from Liao Ping,who only accelerated the turn of Kang Youwei’s modern scripture,but did not have a decisive influence.Based on the above research ideas,this paper intends to start from the existing discussions in the academic community,briefly evaluate and consider the main argumentation methods,and finally choose to analyze from within the scriptures;after that,it will dig into the development of Kang Youwei’s thought in the order of his early works,from which it will be possible to observe whether there is an obvious turn in the trajectory of Kang Youwei’s early thought(before 1890).argues that there is no obvious break between Kang Youwei’s early sutra thinking and his middle and late sutra thinking,and of course the stimulation of Kang Youwei by Liao Ping cannot be denied in its entirety;as Mr.Xiao Gongquan says,"we cannot completely deny the possibility of Kang Youwei discovering the same truth alone".Of course,after the rejection of the plagiarism,the main difference between the "influence school" and the "original school" has not been decided yet,and this paper introduces the "public case" which is more similar to this one This paper introduces the "Newton and Leibniz case",which is more similar to this "public case",for comparison,and argues that without clear evidence of "plagiarism" or "influence",we should call Kang Youwei and Liao Ping the co-discoverers of truth.This is the conclusion that the "public case" can reach on the basis of the available materials.
