A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Eight Crises,Lessons From China,(1949-2009)(Excerpt)

Agriculture,rural areas and people share the top priority of the Chinese government’s all work.And the material of the Chinese-English translation is excerpted from the Eight Crises,Lessons from China,(1949-2009).The source text explores the reasons why China successfully recovered from these economic crises due to its urban-rural dichotomy system.Therefore,it is valuable to translate it on the three rural issues.This translation project aims to improve the translator’s translation competence,attract foreign readers to understand China’s development in rural areas and promote cultural exchanges.The first rule of the Skopos theory is the purpose principle.And the first purpose of the translation of social science popular text is to explain the social reality with concise language and detailed historical records.Therefore,with the help of the Skopos theory,many translation difficulties such as economic terms and long complicated sentences are analyzed in the translation process,so as to create a better translation to the target readers.The translator in this translation project learns a lot in the three aspects as follows.At first,some terms proposed by the author need to be consulted by multiple parties.And secondly,in the translation of long and complicated sentences,the translator adopts the method of splitting and rearrangement to enhance cohesion and make it easier for readers to understand.Thirdly,the translator employs lexical and grammatical cohesive devices to achieve coherence in the translation.And the translation enables the translator to gain much experience in translating informative text and to improve the capability of using CAT(Computer Assistant Translation)tools in translation.
