A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of WTO Annual Report 2019(Excerpts)

In 2019,the World Trade Organization further strengthened the trade connection and reduced trade friction between countries,playing an important and irreplaceable role in maintaining the stability and promoting the development of the world economy.Given that the negotiation and monitoring work of the World Trade Organization has great reference significance,the translator selects Chapter Four and part of Chapter Five of WTO Annual Report 2019,which introduce the work of WTO in trade negotiation and monitoring for translation,discusses various difficulties and challenges encountered in the translation process,and uses corresponding translation methods to solve these difficulties and challenges.This report mainly includes four parts: background and significance,task description,process description and case analysis.In the part of process description,major stages of translation preparation,translation process and quality assurance are introduced,the work of the translation practice at each stage is described,and parallel texts are listed as important references for the translation task.In the case analysis part,the translator selects some typical cases from the target text,under the guidance of text typology,conducts a detailed analysis at three levels for solving translation difficulties.First of all,at the lexical level,the translator analyzes the translation of proper nouns and nominalized expressions,and uses corresponding methods such as supplementary and restoring the original meaning.Secondly,at the syntactic level,the translator analyzes the translation of passive sentences and attributive clauses,and respectively uses translation methods such as supplementing a subject and division.Thirdly,at the text level,in order to solve the problem of cohesion and coherence of the text,the translator uses the application of logical connectives and the translation method of thematic advancement.The results and implication of this translation practice are as follows.First of all,the translation practice further presents the important reference significance of parallel texts,term banks and translation memories.In addition,the translator respectively uses corresponding skills to solve translation difficulties at the above-mentioned three levels.In this translation practice,the translator tries to translate informative texts,and through the combination of the theory and practice,the translator hopes to provide a reference for the target readers and provide suggestions for translation work in this field.
