This report maps a brief trajectory of an online English-Chinese consecutive interpreting on an academic conference-International Symposium on Asian Children’s Literature.Due to the outbreak of COVID-19,it’s necessary to strengthen prevention and control measures during the pandemic.Therefore,this interpreting task is a secondary scene online consecutive interpreting.This report is composed of five sections: the first three chapters introduce the background information and the preparative activities of this interpreting task;the latter two chapters analyze the problems during the interpreting,and accordingly put forward the strategies.The client,Miss Mi,a Chinese teacher of Bazhou Jianhua primary school,is interested in one of the keynote speeches of this seminar,so she entrusts this interpreting task to the interpreter.The interpreter recorded,transcribed and analyzed the whole process of the interpreting.Three problems were proved to have a stake in the high cognitive load of the interpreter during the interpreting,i.e.,long complicated sentences,superfluous information and vague discourse logic.Based on the analysis of these problems,the interpreter put forward corresponding strategies in the light of related theories of prefabricated chunks,i.e.,on the basis of the prefabricated chunks to frame the new sentences structure,split the complicated long sentences to several phrases or short sentences,superfluous information in the source language is condensed into simple sentences by prefabricated chunks and through the prefabricated chunks with conventional meaning to explicated the vague discourse logic.The findings of this report will be helpful to improve the interpreter’s ability and shed light on future interpreting activities.This report can function as a reference for the other interpreting learners.
