The National English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition and 2020Revision)puts forward higher requirements for students’ language ability.After taking three years of senior school English courses,students should reach the level of using written language to express themselves fluently.However,after a lot of research and investigation,it is found that the English writing level of senior high school students in China is not high.Writing is a language output skill,and the input of a large amount of comprehensible input is the premise of students’ high-quality language output.Recitation,as a method of language input,is beneficial to students’ ability in English writing.This research is based on input hypothesis theory,information processing theory and language output theory.To explore whether discourse recitation can improve the English writing level of senior science students,the researchers of this action research include 41 who come from Class 1 of Senior Third Science of the Demonstration high school in Huaibei.It lasted for 16 weeks and implemented two rounds of action.This action study mainly answers the following questions:1.Can English discourse recitation improve the English writing level of senior science students?2.What aspects can be improved the English writing level of senior science students?3.What are the strategies to improve the English writing level of Senior students by reciting discourse?By collecting and analyzing the results of two questionnaires,two interviews and three writing tests,it is found that students’ English writing level has been improved through English discourse recitation.For students,the English writing level has been improved in the following aspects:(1)In terms of content,the content of students’ composition corresponds to the theme.Although some contents are missed,it covers all the main contents,and can be properly expanded for discussion according to the requirements of the topic.(2)In terms of language use,students’ vocabulary spelling is accurate,and the use of words has gradually evolved from only using simple words to using advanced words flexibly.They can use different words to express the same meaning in compositions.The frequency of long and difficult sentences and compound sentence patterns in composition has increased.The application of grammatical structures is basically accurate,and sometimes mistakes occur due to attempts more complex syntax structures,but it does not affect the understanding of the article.The overall content of the composition is no longer monotonous.(3)In terms of text structure,students’ composition format meets the requirements of composition topics,and appropriate conjunctions will be used in writing.In doing so,the structure of the compositions becomes more logical and expected writing purposes are basically achieved.Finally,in accordance with the above discussion,the following suggestions are put forward to improve students’ English writing ability:(1)Teachers should emphasize the importance of recitation for students in teaching and assign students reasonable recitation tasks.(2)The selection of recitation materials should conform to the students’ cognitive level,and the content can attract students and make them happy to recite.(3)When reciting,teachers should guide students’ recitation in order to improve students’ recitation efficiency.(4)Recitation is a long-term thing,so teachers and students should make long-term recitation plan.
