A Report On The Subtitle Translation Of Figures Of Speech In The Documentary Currency

With the further development of globalization,international exchanges have been increasingly frequent.Being an important part of film and television,the documentary not only has the responsibility of spreading knowledge and culture,but also has the ability to promote the development of economy.Under the guidance of the Reception Aesthetics Theory,the report takes the translation of figures of speech in subtitles of Currency,produced by CCTV(China Central Television),as the research object,and explores the translation by combining the characteristics of subtitles and subtitle production.The report mainly includes a description of the translation task,a description of the translation process,and a chapter of case analysis.Firstly,in the description of the translation task,the author mainly introduces language features of documentary subtitles,and those main figures of speech used in Currency and the difficulties of their translation.Secondly,in the description of the translation process,the author introduces the guiding theory of the report and its applicability to subtitle translation,and briefly describes the application of software used to assist subtitle translation during the translation as well as the quality control after translation.Thirdly,in case analysis,under the guidance of the Reception Aesthetics Theory and the requirements of bilingual subtitle production,the author analyzes the translation of sentences with parallel structures,tropes and personification,aiming to solve problems that the information is redundant and the words fail to convey the meaning,as well as deal with the difficulty of considering both forms and meanings in the translation of subtitles with figures of speech.The author finds that the limitations of time,space and synchronization,and the using rules of punctuation in subtitles have influences on the translation of subtitles with figures of speech,which needs the translator to adopt different translation skills or methods flexibly,so as to make the expressive effect of figures of speech in translation easier to be accepted by the target audience and be in line with their expectations.By writing the report,the author hopes to provide some reference for the translation of subtitles with figures of speech in documentary.
