A Report On The Simulated C-E Simultaneous Interpreting Of Lei Jun’s Speech At The 10^thAnniversary Launch Event Of Xiaomi Corporation

With the advent of the information era,smartphones have become particularly significant and indispensable in our daily life.At home,through the alternation of brands of mobile phones and their rising price,domestic phone makers have also experienced a series of changes.On the evening of August 11,2020,Xiaomi science and technology park held the 10th anniversary of Xiaomi launch event.Lei Jun,the founder of Xiaomi,chairman,and chief executive officer of Xiaomi Group,made his public speech,telling an unknown story behind Xiaomi in the past decade.The author believes that in ten years,Xiaomi has successfully ranked among the top Global 500 companies in the world,and the success of Xiaomi is worth learning from by Chinese and foreign enterprises.In addition,with constant promotion of globalization,the launch event of electronic products is going international,so more interpreters are needed to set foot in this field of interpretation.Different from the traditional ones,the launch event of electronic products is more flexible in form and more scientific and technological in content,which challenges interpreters to a larger extent.The content of Xiaomi Corporation’s 10th anniversary launch event in 2020 tends to be scientific and technological.Due to the nature of its product conference,it mainly introduces and promotes the company’s electronic products,and the speaker will frequently use the technical terms related to the product conference,making it harder for non-native speakers to understand.There are also a lot of run-on sentences in Lei Jun’s speech.As a unique sentence pattern in Chinese,there are numerous run-on sentences in literary works and daily life dialogues,which are broadly used.Therefore,the study on the English interpretation of run-on sentences is of great practical value.After the practice of simultaneous interpretation of Lei Jun’s speech,the author finds three difficulties in the English interpretation of run-on sentences:difficulty in interpreting run-on sentences without subjects;difficulty in grasping implied logical relations among run-on sentences;difficulty in dealing with redundancy in run-on sentences.The case study shows that adding proper subject and adopting passive structure can effectively solve the problem in interpreting run-on sentences without subjects;adding logical connectives and grasping the main information of sentences are the best ways to deal with the implied logical relations among run-on sentences;omission and restructuring can help to eliminate the redundancy of sentence information.It is hoped that these coping strategies can provide reference and help for future interpretation work.
