| This is a practice report on the English-Chinese translation of a scholarly book Endangered Languages and New Technologies(excerpt).Under the guidance of adaptation theory,the author discusses how translation can be done in terms of context adaptation,language structure adaptation,dynamics of adaptability and salience of adaptation.This report consists of five parts.The first part is the description of the translation task,in which the author presents the reasons why this practice was finally chosen,along with a brief introduction to the source text and the significance of the practice.In the second part,the author gives a detailed description of the translation process,including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation steps.Then follows the literature review,in which the author summarizes current studies of academic texts at home and abroad and translation practices guided by the adaptation theory.The fourth part is case study based on Verschueren’s adaptation theory.The author carefully analyzes the problems encountered in her translation practice,aiming to demonstrate the adaptation process and the translation techniques.Finally,conclusions are reached,undertaking that the translation process is a dynamic and consciously adaptive process,and the translation of academic texts is no exception.Thus,the salience of dynamic adaptation plays a key role in improving translation quality. |
